CHESTNUT HILL, MA – MITSS is delighted to announce that Karen O. Moore, RN, MS, FACHE, has been elected as the new Chair for its Board of Directors. Her appointment takes effect immediately. Karen is currently the CEO at Kindred Hospital Parkview, Springfield, Massachusetts. Prior to that, she was the Vice President, Hospital Operations, at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, MA. Karen has been a senior health care executive and nurse for 30 years. She graduated from Boston State College with her BSN and completed a Masters in Nursing Administration at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Ms. Moore’s experience is distinguished by her commitment to patient safety, quality, and supportive work environments. She received the Massachusetts Hospital Association Leadership Award for her efforts in partnering with hospitals to create a voluntary compact of excellence with the Patients First Initiative. Ms. Moore also received the Mary B. Conceision Award for Nursing Leadership in 2007 and a 2007 Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Karen is also the Past President of the Massachusetts Organization of Nurse Executives and Fellow in the American College of Health Care Executives. She has been a member of the MITSS Board since 2005. “I am privileged to continue to work with the MITSS Board and staff; so much has been achieved in the past five years to change attitudes within the healthcare community to acknowledge medical error,” Karen said. “MITSS is the sole voice speaking to support victims of medical trauma – patients, families, and caregivers. I and the Board look forward to supporting hospitals in these efforts,” she added. MITSS is equally privileged that Karen has assumed the Chairperson’s position, and we look forward to her further leadership and commitment during this pivotal and exciting time in healthcare.
